In most cities today, there are as many electric scooters for adults as there are kids e-scooters. What were once play things for kids, are now an integral part of the transport system in most places. Notably, light weight electric scooters have experienced exponential growth in popularity, especially among adults, and it’s easy to see why.

Reasons why electric scooters are popular with adults:

  • They are a pocket friendly means of transportation.
  • E-scooters offer parking convenience, especially in crowded cities.
  • Many electric scooters are portable, making storage a breeze.
  • E-scooters can bypass rush hour traffic and get you to your destination faster.
  • These PEVs help reduce your carbon footprint.
  • Personal scooters offer a hygienic alternative to riding on public transportation or shared scooters.

However, when buying an electric scooter for adults, there are things you need to consider.

Checklist of factors to consider when buying an adult electric scooter

Budget: What is a realistic price cap for you? Establishing a budget lets you narrow down from the sea of options, getting you an inch closer to your preferred model.

  • Weight capacity: To retain the structural integrity of the vehicle, and maintain standard performance, you need to get a scooter that comfortably supports your weight.
  • Ride quality: Consider your build–are you tall? Do you have long hands or large feet? You want a scooter that lets you adopt natural stances, not hunched over, or without space to shuffle your feet on the deck. In addition, personal preferences like the throttle design, seated or standing form factor, type of deck cover, feel of the grips, and the placement of the controls are also things to consider.
  • Purpose: Establishing why you need the adult electric scooter points you in the right direction when doing research. Decide whether you want a racing vehicle, a long-range commuter, an adventure scooter, a lazy Sunday leisure scooter, etc.
  • Track conditions: Where you ride the scooter plays a huge role, as certain scooters are not meant to be ridden off well maintained city tracks. You need to consider factors such as tire size and type, suspension system, deck size and shape, ground clearance, motor and brake configuration, and uncommon features like traction control and steering dampers.

With that settled, you can now dive into our curated list of the best electric scooters for adults, 2024.

Unagi Model One Voyager - Best Electric Scooter for Adults

Singling out one scooter as ‘the best’ is no easy task, since there are so many good electric scooters out there. However, it’s easy to justify why the Unagi Model One Voyager is indeed the top choice.

Unagi Model One Voyager

The Unagi Model One Voyager, is first of all, the most affordable scooter for adults. You don’t need heavy financing to get the Voyager since Unagi offers a convenient All-Access Membership plan. All-Access allows members to subscribe to a monthly payment plan, with the freedom to cancel their subscription without penalty. Under the plan, the Voyager will only cost you $79 a month, with the freedom to bundle up your months to get the scooter for less.

Secondly, when it comes to build quality, the Model One Voyager is toe-to-toe with luxury scooters like the Apollo Pro. The materials used in construction are premium, from the carbon fiber stem, to the magnesium alloy handlebars, and a single-piece aluminum chassis. The materials culminate in a very lightweight electric scooter, weighing 29.6 lbs. Additionally, the scooter folds to one of the most compact packages, scoring it quite high on portability.

Thirdly, the scooter has quite decent performance for its price and weight. It is the lightest dual motor scooter, meaning you’ll get excellent hill climbing and acceleration without the usual bulk associated with scooters with dual motors. The top speed and range are more than sufficient for the daily commuter with a 20 mph top speed and a range between 12-25 miles, depending on your riding style and riding conditions. Not to mention the electric scooter's battery is fitted with premium cells that are great for battery life.

For commuting adults, there’s also the practicality of flat proof tires, an IPX4 rating, a smart app that keeps tabs on your riding metrics as well as allowing some level of customization, and a solid braking system. And with membership perks like theft and damage insurance, the value is simply unrivaled.

Gotrax Flex - Best Budget electric scooter for Adults

The Gotrax Flex is an affordable, lightweight, and nimble bike lane commuter. It currently retails for $349, making it one of the best budget electric scooters on the market. It’s not the biggest performer, with a top speed of 15.5 mph and a tested range of 13.5 miles, but what it lacks in raw numbers it makes up for in ride quality. Plus it has the charm of a neat carrier basket that can carry cargo weighing up to 50 lbs.

Gotrax Flex

The Gotrax Flex is a seated electric scooter, and the most affordable one you can get. It’s unique in that it features a deck with grip tape instead of the foot pegs you’re accustomed to seeing on seated scooters like the EMOVE Roadrunners. The seat is thickly padded for ride comfort and has springs to cushion against vibrations. With cruise control on, you can enjoy leisurely short trips during your time off.

The 14-inch air tires and rear suspension means that you mostly get a smooth ride from the scooter. However, the large wheels and small 350 W motor limit your rides to relatively flat grounds, as the scooter will barely make it up the most average gradients. That said, with Gotrax’s renowned build quality, the one-year warranty, and the accommodative 264 lbs rider weight capacity, the Flex is definitely your budget electric scooter of choice.

Fluid Mosquito - Best Portable Electric Scooter for Adults

If you’re a regular commuter, then you understand how important portability is in a scooter. We recently featured the Fluid Mosquito as the fastest scooter in our best lightweight electric scooters, and it makes another entry here. It’s one of the lightest motorized scooters in production that’s not a kids scooter, weighing just 29 lbs–that’s light enough for most people above the age of 8 to carry over a distance.

Fluid Mosquito

Additionally, the scooter has a small folded footprint. The Mosquito features a retractable folding stem and folding handlebars, which bring the total folded dimensions to 41.5 inches x 5.6 inches x 13 inches. The folded scooter is small enough to carry with you to your appointments, on public transport, to a cafe, etc. What’s more, the compact size is discreet enough not to be an eyesore for establishments that would otherwise frown upon you bringing in an electric scooter.

Don’t let its size fool you though. The scooter is powerful, achieving a top speed of 28 mph, and going up to 19 miles on a single charge. Additionally, it is stated to support a max rider weight of 265 lbs, which makes it appropriate for many adult riders. The solid tires on the scooter and the regen and drum brake pairing means there’s little to no maintenance. And, surprisingly, Fluid managed to sneak in a front and rear suspension on the Mosquito to mitigate some of the jitteriness from the solid tires.

Segway Ninebot Max G2 - Best Electric scooter for Tall Adults

The scooter is an upgrade to the much-revered Ninebot Max G30, that set the standard for range and reliability in the commuter scooter class. The $899 Max G2 is better in every way, compared to the predecessor, but makes this list as the scooter with the best adult-friendly geometry.

The Max G2 adult electric scooter features tall and wide handlebars that can comfortably accommodate riders up to 6’6’’. The handlebar height is set at a fixed 41-inches, while its width spans 22.4 inches, up from the G30’s 18.75-inch width. This allows taller riders' hands to rest comfortably on the bars without experiencing fatigue.

Segway Ninebot Max G2

Taller riders will often have larger feet, which the Max G2 caters for with its long and wide deck. The 19.8-inch by 7.3-inch footboard is more than enough to have your pick of comfortable riding stance, even in the absence of a structured foot rest. However, due to the increased dimensions and the scooter’s 53.5 lbs weight, it’s no longer one of the most portable scooters.

That aside, riders benefit from the scooter’s proprietary RideyLONG technology that improves range efficiency, with the scooter going a tested 26.6 miles in max performance mode on a single charge. The scooter also has traction control, high integrated turn signals, low-rolling resistance, self healing tubeless tires, and connects to Apple’s ‘Find My’ ecosystem, making it one of the most modern scooters in the market.

Emove Cruiser S - Best Electric Scooter for Heavy Adults

The Emove Cruiser line of electric scooters excel in a lot of areas as we’ll briefly explore, but for heavy adults, the 352 lbs true max rider weight capacity has been the biggest selling point. The Cruiser S has a 2024 upgrade–the EMOVE Cruiser V2, but we’re sticking with the older version, since the ‘near-insignificant’ upgrades to the new model also bring the weight up to 78.2 lbs from the Cruiser S’s 56.4 lbs.

Emove Cruiser S

The Cruiser S punches well above its weight, when it comes to performance–a trend that’s not affected by having heavier riders behind the steering. Top of the performance marvels is the scooters incredible 43.6 miles of range in peak performance. This heroin achievement makes the Cruiser S the smallest, least expensive long range electric scooter.

The scooter's powerful rear 1000 W motor is controlled by a sine wave controller that delivers snappy and abrupt acceleration, guaranteeing thrilling pick up even for the big riders. In addition, the large 1560 Wh LG battery supplies the added power required to support heavy riders. The 140 mm semi hydraulic disc brakes also stop efficiently, and are thick enough to resist excess wear from harder braking needs.

In order to ensure that bigger riders are as comfortable on this tiny vehicle, VORO gives the Cruiser S an ultra roomy surfer board deck, 25-inch wide handlebars, 10-inch pneumatic tubeless tires, and front and rear quad suspension with just enough flex for heavy adult riders. All these features are encased in an extremely tough frame that's rugged enough to support the daily riding needs of heavier adult riders.

Apollo City Pro - Best Waterproof Electric Scooters for Adults

Canadian manufacturer Apollo moved design in-house mid 2022, and since then, their electric scooters are almost on a league of their own when it comes to build quality. To show just how much Apollo believes in their designs, they introduced a warranty clause that guarantees the frame for 10,000 kms (6123 miles). And speaking of frames, the Apollo City, Air, and Pro scooters feature the highest water and dustproof ratingof any scooter in the market.

image

The Apollo scooters carry an IP66 waterproof rating, and here’s what that means. An IP66 rating means that the device is protected against multi-directional, high pressure water jets, for a minimum of three minutes. For the City Pro, this means you can ride the scooter throughout the year regardless of the weather. It also means you can hose down your scooter when cleaning, a feat you should avoid with most electric scooters, lest you waterlog the electrical components.

For people that experience torrential rains, this scooter is an affordable alternative to the luxury Apollo Pro, and is a performance beast unlike the entry-level Apollo Air. Additionally, for just $1699, you get a tested top speed of 32 mph, a range of about 25 miles on a single charge, excellent hill climbing by the dual 500 W motors, a smooth ride from the 10-inch self healing pneumatic tires plus front and rear suspension, and Apollo’s world class dedicated regenerative braking paired with front and rear drum brakes.

Apollo Pro - Best Luxury Electric scooter for Adults

Let’s face it–most of our purchasing constraints come about as a result of limited financing. But what if you had a blank cheque? What’s the ultimate scooter? Well, that’s the Apollo Pro electric scooter. The Apollo Pro has been lauded as the most elegantly designed, integrated, technologically advanced, and neatly packaged electric scooter

Design wise, Apollo left nothing to chance. The scooter has a unibody frame–a single-piece air-grade aluminum chassis, a strong stem with a best-in-class latch, a center stand that not only looks good out of sight but also occupies minimal space, a flush-mounted integrated dot matrix display since you get to use your phone as the primary display, and monster fender protection.

Apollo Pro

To complement the already aesthetic frame, Apollo adds a beautiful frosted light along the stem, and a wrap-around light that goes along the deck and over the kickplate. The Apollo Pro also pioneered the handlebar turn signal lights that we’ve seen on all subsequent Apollo scooters. Additionally, there’s a stunning wide rubber deck, whose only branding is Apollo’s monogram logo.

Then comes the tech. The Apollo Pro’s use of a phone as the primary display means that riders get an insane level of customization through Apollo’s world class smartphone app. The quad lock case doubles as a wireless charger. The e-scooter, in addition, has programmable horn sounds, onboard navigation through the speaker, advanced custom Mach2 controllers for performance efficiency, and a Sim card slot that unlocks endless IOT possibilities.

The scooter will set you back $3299, and for that you can expect above average performance, a smooth ride, low maintenance, an IP66 rating, durability and reliability, and a scooter that won’t leave you needing more of anything.

Kaabo Wolf King GTR - Fastest Electric Scooter for Adults

Technically, the Kaabo Wolf King GTR is not the fastest electric scooter in the world. However, the fastest electric scooters will set you back more than $4000, save for the Wolf King GTR and its predecessor the King GT. We ranked the $3895 Wolf King GTR 4th in our recent awards for fastest electric scooters, and the $3195 Wolf King GT in 7th place.

Kaabo Wolf King GTR

Kaabo’s Wolf King scooters have made a name for themselves in the high performance category, with both electric scooters breaking the world speed records at the time of their release. The King GTR achieves a tested top speed of 65.8 mph, surpassing the manufacturer-stated 63 mph. The scooter has bottomless power, with the dual motors churning out a peak output of 13440 W.

You get 8 riding modes to tame the Wolf King to your most comfortable speed. However, to unlock top speed, you need to engage Ludo mode and turn off traction control to allow maximum spin on the front wheel. You also have to enable S mode, then click S again at 60 mph to get an extra 10 amps of current to each motor for 10 seconds.

The Kaabo Wolf King GTR is more than just fast. It’s also ergonomically designed to guarantee a good ride quality. It has the tall adjustable front and rear suspension, a record 9.3-inch clearance, a huge 22 inch by 9.3 inch deck, 12-inch x 4-inch hybrid tires, smooth sine wave controllers, and wide handlebars. It also has a max rider weight of 330 lbs, making it perfect for heavy adults.

Nami Burn E-2 Max - Best Off-road Electric Scooter for Adults

Michael Sha created one of the highest-performance electric scooter brands, NAMI. The NAMI electric scooters are not your average, everyday commuting scooters. Instead, they are the scooter of choice for adventurers with a knack for climbing steep hills. In fact, you will find the entire pack of NAMIs in the top ten hill climbers, including the reduced-performance NAMI Klima.

Nami Burn E-2 Max

The Burn-E 2 Max, the current pack leader, needs an extremely steady hand at full speed. It has one of the fastest accelerations, clocking 30 mph in just 3.7 seconds, and can reach speeds of 55 mph. Since it’s designed to go off-road, NAMI added a steering damper to aid in stability by preventing the overcorrection that usually leads to speed wobbles. You also get 27-inch wide handlebars that are ultra stable and perfect for bigger adults.

The NAMI motorized scooters are exotic looking beasts, featuring a unique hand-welded, cross-braced tubular frame. This design choice makes them rock solid when cornering. Additionally, the carbon fiber stem eliminates handlebar vibrations, especially when riding through rough terrain. In maintaining a smooth ride, the Burn E-2 Max also comes with super smooth sine wave controllers that can addedly adjust motor power to the front and rear motors independently.

The 11-inch, 3.5 wide tubeless tires are great for ride comfort, and pair well with the hydraulic front and rear suspension that are adjustable for rebound: set to fast rebound when off-roading. The 4-piston Logan brakes with large pads guarantee a lightning fast stopping distance to keep you safe in treacherous hilly terrain.

Lastly, the Burn E-2 Max is a heavy scooter weighing 105 lbs, so have that in mind, and it also costs about $4599, which is no mean investment.

Dualtron X Limited - Best Long Range Electric Scooter for Adults

The Dualtron X Limited was an ambitious project that even the guys at MiniMotors probably had qualms about. However, it’s been roughly two years since its release and the X Limited continues to rival new releases in its class, and maintain a grip on the title for biggest and baddest scooter in the world. Currently, you can get seasonal discounts that bring the cost down to $6000, but on a bad day, you’ll still need to part with $6995 for this bad boy.

Dualtron X Limited

The scooter has the longest range posted by electric scooter. Paul from Electric Scooter Guide (The team at ESG that test electric scooters) says he rode the X Limited for a continuous 3 hours 57 minutes from full battery till the scooter came to a stop, in maximum performance mode, totaling to 85 miles. Minimotors, however, claims that riding in ideal conditions can get you to 100 miles. The scooter’s power comes from an 84 V 5040 Wh battery, and the manufacturer even fitted the X Limited with a secondary 192 Wh battery for the multiple lights on the scooter.

If you’re going far, you’ll probably need to get there fast. The scooter’s 64 mph maximum speed is a nice pairing for the massive range. Additionally, the 13400 W peak power motors don’t slow down on hills, despite the scooter's massive size (it weighs 182 lbs). The journey also needs to be comfortable, and ride quality is facilitated by the 14 inch x 19 inch deck, the 13 inch x 5 inch tubeless tires, the hydraulic shocks with endless travel, and the stiff stem with a steering damper.

Note, all the top reviewers agree that the X Limited is undisputedly the most comfortable stand up scooter–but you get an optional seat if three hours plus of riding upright is too tasking for you. Also, the X Limited scooter weighs 182.6 lbs, so it might not be the right electric scooter for everyone.
